Step 2 – Strategy Design

We do the analysis, the projections, and the research, put every position in writing, and present the plan to you in a dedicated meeting.

Step 3 – Implementation

The savings unlock when the plan is put in place, not when it is written. We implement each strategy you choose, step by step: the elections, the filings, the setup.

Who We Build Tax Plans For

Business Owners

Most owners find out at filing time how much tax they need to pay. Choices made during the year decide how much taxes you save, and they only exist while there is still time to make them.

We plan those choices around your real numbers.

Real Estate Investors

Real estate gives its owners some of the strongest legal tax positions available, and some of the strictest requirements to prove.

Most investors use only a fraction of tax strategies they qualify for.

High Income Professionals

Doctors, dentists, and other high earners are told the same thing every year: "just max your 401(k)." That advice stops far short of what is actually available.

If you earn well and own a practice or real estate, there is usually real planning room.

How we can help you
THE RIGHT FIT

Tax Planning is Not for Everyone

We would rather turn down the work than sell you a plan that does not pay for itself.

Our planning clients have three things in common

You have real income on the table

Business profits, rental property, or strong professional income. If your return is simple, you do not need a tax plan, and we will tell you so.

The savings make sense

The projected savings have to be a multiple of the investment. When they are not, we say so and point you to the service you actually need.

You can meet the documentation requirements

Every strategy has requirements to prove, and the requirements get documented during the year. With us or on your own, that work is what keeps every position defensible.

Tax planning is an on-going engagement

The earlier you start, the more strategies are available

Start in January and almost every option is open. In December a few moves are left. After the year closes, only a few retirement options remain.

You have to be diligent throughout the year

You log hours when they happen, keep records month by month, and meet every deadline. That diligence is what turns a strategy into a deduction.

The best time to come in is the fall

We build the plan before the new year starts, then document the requirements through the year. By the time you file, every position is already backed up.

FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between tax planning and tax preparation?

Tax preparation is a report on a year that is already over. The preparer's job is to get the numbers right, and by then your tax bill is set.

Tax planning happens while the year is still open: we project your income, choose the legal strategies that fit your situation, and put them in place before year-end, so you owe less when you file.

Does aggressive tax planning increase my audit risk?

Yes. Large legal positions can draw more IRS attention, and anyone who tells you otherwise is not being straight with you.

The more strategies we implement, the more documentation you need, because each deduction has to trace back to real records, and the more aggressive the plan, the cleaner the books have to be. Your plan spells out what records each position needs, how to gather them, and when.

That is part of what you are paying for. If the IRS reviews the return, the documentation required already exists. And if your books are behind or messy, we fix them first, before any tax planning.

When can I start tax planning?

Any time. Start early in the year and more strategies stay open, with more time to collect the documentation each one requires.

Fall is the ideal time to plan for the incoming year. In December the list is short: some moves remain for the current year, and we will tell you whether a plan still makes sense. Come to us in January and the previous year is closed, apart from a few retirement options.

An active IRS problem is different: we handle representation year-round, so reach out now.

How much does tax planning cost, and is it worth it?

We do a complimentary discovery session, analyze your previous tax return and see where you're overpaying. We do an estimate of your savings and the investment for your plan. A plan is worth it when the projected savings are a multiple of the investment, and we do not take you on otherwise.

Implementation and maintenance are separate engagements, and we scope each one based on the strategies you move forward with.

If yours is a simple return and does not need a plan, we'll tell you that.

What does a tax planner do?

A tax planner finds the legal ways to lower your tax bill and then makes sure they hold up against IRS scrutiny. We analyze your latest return to see where you are overpaying, design a written plan with each position quantified, and implement the strategies you choose: the elections, the filings, the setup.

Through the year we document the requirements behind each strategy, so every position stays defensible. By the time you file, the required documentation is already in place.
